Favorite Media 2024
An incomplete list of my favorite videos, shows, movies and music of 2024, in no particular order.
- 📺 Installing The Sonic Drive-In Operating System
Trying to get an old drive-in self-service counter to work. The first Bringus Studios video I’ve seen. Laughed a lot. Love the editing with the small jokes and memes sprinkled on top. - 📺 Completely Overhauling my 1940’s Garage
I really like home renovation videos! But this one brought it to the next level. I had to spontaneously laugh out loud multiple times. - 📺 I flew to Detroit to track down a Game Boy thief
I like watching Nick’s longer documentaries. Very nostalgic feeling. - 📺 The Worst Sitcom Ending of All Time – Two and a Half Men
A video essay about the ending of Two and a Half Men, the drama surrounding Charlie Sheen, and the good aftermath that was less talked about. - 📺 The Men Who Promised the Impossible: Unlimited Energy
Remember when scientists thought they were able to generate more energy than they put in? I didn’t, because I wasn’t born back then. A 3-part documentary about the crazy story and aftermath of trying to solve cold fusion. - 📺 I Don’t Know James Rolfe
A video essay about James Rolfe, also known as the “Angry Video Game Nerd”. I’ve used to watch AVGN a lot, and I even bought the AVGN movie on Vimeo, so it was interesting to learn more about James. But at the end you realize that it’s not just about James Rolfe, it’s about getting older and changing. The production and filming of this video essay was amazing, and peaked with the small model of the AVGN studio at the end. - 📺 DIY basement slab
More entertaining and funny home renovation content! I proceeded to binge-watch the whole Müjin channel the same evening. - 📺 TRANSANGLIUM 1: Can I Cross England in a Straight Line Before GeoWizard?
I’ve clicked on this video not knowing (and not realizing) it was a parody. I thought it was going to be a regular straight-line mission, which made it even funnier when it got more and more ridiculous. - 📺 Jet Lag: The Game S08, S09, S10, S11, S12
I couldn’t pick a specific season of Jet Lag, so I picked all of them from this year. Jet Lag is a travel competition show, where they compete in a game (like Tag or Capture the Flag) throughout a whole country or continent. I have a Nebula subscription just because I want to support Jet Lag. - 📺 Shit’s on Fire, Yo!
A talk from Deviant Ollam (the elevator and lock picking guy) about fire code in buildings and sprinkler systems. Now, whenever I go through an airport or hotel, I always look at the colors of the sprinklers on the ceilings. - 📺 The greatest clock (and map) ever made
I want that clock! - 📺 DougDoug
Right now my favorite english-speaking YouTube channel. Doug cracked the code with his combination of silly challenges, AI, gaming and chat interaction. He knows how to create entertaining and unique content, which is evident by his guide to new creators. - 📺 Donnie_oh
My favorite german-speaking YouTube channel. Donnie seems like a great guy, he deserves more views. I lately enjoy his reaction content a lot, but also the real-life stories and gaming content is very entertaining to watch. - 📺 Engineezy
”Maker content” is another genre I like to watch, and JBV/Engineezy builds marble machines from time to time! Building marble machines fascinated me since the Marble Machine X videos, which became a bit difficult to follow (iykyk). So I’m really grateful for videos about building marble machines that are shorter, and don’t take multiple years to complete. - 📺 Max Maker
Maker content meets home renovation! Not necessarily home renovation, but he’s building a new workshop right now. - 🎬 Severance
Whenever I see a show I like a lot, I think “there can’t be anything better”. Now I think there can’t be anything better than Severance. Looking forward to season 2. - 🎬 Wednesday
Binge-watched Wednesday together with a good friend. Good times! The plot was kinda predictable, but it was still entertaining. - 🎬 Blackberry
The story of Blackberry. Had this on my watchlist for a year, until we watched it on our company offsite. - 💿 Faber – Addio
This album was by far the album and songs I heard the most this year. My Spotify wrapped was just songs from this album. - 💿 Gringo Mayer – Ihr liewe Leit
- 💿 Tim Freitag – Monsters Forever
- 💿 Enno Bunger – Der beste Verlierer
- 💿 DI-RECT – Sphinx
- 💿 SIND – Erstmal für immer
- 💿 J. Bernhardt – Contigo
- 🎵 Marc Rebillet Ft. Gabriel Richards (saxophone guy) from we outside ep 4
- 🎵 skuth – Ändert nichts
- 🎵 Thunder Jackson – Hello Stranger
- 🎵 Nils Frevert – Ich würde dir helfen, eine Leiche zu verscharren, wenn’s nicht meine ist
- 🎵 Men At Work – Overkill
